Yuletide: Capital City Commissioner Awards Scholarship To Over 50 students, Distributes Car, Motorcycles, Others

Commissioner for Capital City and Urban Development, Ebonyi State, Barr. Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has awarded free scholarship to over 50 indigent students while celebrating 2021 Christmas with his people at his country home, Isophumini Mbeke Ishieke in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state.

This is as he gave a brand new Corolla Toyota, 2018 Model to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress of Ebonyi Local Government Area, Comrade Patrick Orogbo, with over ten motorcycles distributed to his people during the event.

Addressing the people, Barr. Nwebonyi said that the event which holds annually to appreciate God for his blessings and grace, since his emergence as the state Chairman of his former Party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Barr. Nwebonyi advised the people to always keep their trust in God, and expressed optimism that by the grace of God, nothing would stop the event, holding annaully on 27th December to celebrate with his supporters, friends and well-wishers, especially the less privileged ones.

In his words, “We have many things to give out, we have given some out, but for symbolic reasons we will give some here today.

“Our scholarship scheme is progressing, this year over 50 students will go home with one hundred thousand Naira, and some fifty thousand Naira. We have graduated over 15 graduates of different disciplines, and it is a thing of joy. I believe that in those families, we were able to support their children to go to school, I believe strongly that we have planted light in those families.

“It is because any family that can boast of a graduate is ready to say bye-bye to poverty. Education is key to success, let’s start so that they will clear the way. We will start the distribution of the motorcycles and we have ten to distribute,” Nwebonyi said.

While handing over the brand new car to the APC Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area, Nwebonyi urged other stakeholders of the party to support in encouraging its officials, saying that as one time party Boss in the state, he knew their challenges, believing that they would be tackled gradually.

He also assured of expanding the beneficiaries of his scholarship scheme, which according to him, over 50 students of different categories were during the occasion given between 100,00 and 50,000 Naira for their school fees.

Our correspondent who joined a team of journalists to inspect Nwebonyi’s projects in his Mbeke Ishieke Community reports that his people applauded his philanthropist gestures and prayed God to continue to bless him the more.

According to Mrs Felicia Igboke, a widow from Okum Ishieke, the Commissioner is building a two bed room flat with corridors for her, the house almost completed and prayed God to uplift him more to serve humanity.

Also, Mrs Maria and Grace Okinya Ogboso from Ukumoro Ishieke rejoiced over a bugallow built by Nwebonyi for their late husband, as a way of appreciating his contributions for the peace, unity and progress of the community during his lifetime.

Stakeholders who spoke during the occasion including the Coordinator of Mbeke Development Centre – Hon Michael Njoku, the Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State and the Chairman of the occasion – Chief Chris Uchaji, the Chairman APC in Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone – Hon John Nwankata, the former member Board of Directors, Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority – Hon James Nwite, Hon Henry Mbam – Mbeke Ward Councillor, Mrs Regina Nwoguzor, among others widely commended the philanthropic gestures of Chief Nwebonyi and called other well placed people in the area to emulate him.
