Abakaliki Catholic diocese has declared the withdrawal of meritorious award given to Mrs Alo Nora Ngozi over the controversial inscription as “the only virgin in Ebonyi state”.
The church in a disclaimer signed by the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria,CYON Diocesian Chaplain,Rev Fr Philemon Okoro announced the nullification and withdrawal of the award on Friday.
It was gathered that the inscription triggered alot of condemnation on social media as some influencers bashed the church for promoting insensitivity.

It was learnt that St Philomena Catholic church Izhia on Sunday honoured Mrs Alo for her support to the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria,CYON of the said parish.
The church however explained that the church does not trade the virtue of virginity for an award of honour, thus, the inclusion of”the only virgin in Ebonyi state” was never part of what was considered in the plan for the merit award.
“The parish priest and parishioners were shocked to learn of this development , because there was never a time it was contemplated.
“The church in Abakaliki Diocese vehemently condemns the act of ignorance portrayed by the youth president.
It added that the Diocese has sternly cautioned the youth president and currently undergoing some disciplinary measures set up by the parish.
