The Honourable Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has praised Ebonyi State Board of Internal Revenue for the positive results felt on the State’s economy, since their inception of office in June, 2020.

Chief Nwifuru made this known at his country home, in Oferekpe Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area, when the Chairman, Secretary and other members of the board paid him a Christmas visit, in recognition of his stellar legislative roles in the development of the State.

Recall that during their screening at Ebonyi State House of Assembly, on June 12, 2020, Rt. Hon. Nwifuru, had tasked the Board to meticulously get to work and steadily improve the IGR of the State. It was in reminiscence of the injunction that he praised their work, so far.

“When you people were constituted, I was of the opinion, that if this group fails like the previous ones, then, we’ll be left with no option than to hire external hands to do the job. But I was very confident that you will not fail because we employed the best brains to handle it this time. We have seen improvements, so let me thank you for doing your duty,” Speaker Nwifuru said.

He went on to task them to continue pushing on, as there are ample rooms for improvement, adding that their office should be very busy to steadily keep the State’s economy on the upward trajectory. He reminded them, that the House in their oversight functions, empowered by sections 128 and 129 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, will continue to keep them in check.

Earlier on, the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Austin Nweze praised the Honourable Speaker for drilling them properly and having confidence in them, during their screening exercise at the Hallowed Chamber of Ebonyi State House of Assembly. Secretary of the Board, Chief Barr. Boniface Ezaegu thanked Speaker Nwifuru, and pleaded that the House should look into their challenges, such as costs of running the Board, immobility, and interference by some other bodies.

Other groups like, Ikwo Youth Frontiers, Izzi Nnodo Students Association, Association of Deaf and Dumb Ebonyi State, were equally on hand to celebrate the yuletide with the Honorable Speaker and his family.
