The Wife of the Senator representing Ebonyi North Zone Chief (Mrs) Eunice Ukamaka Egwu through her widow care foundation has distributed bags of rice, wrappers, cash to over six hundred indigent widows among others during the 18th Annual Widows Care Initiative
at the Hope High British School in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Interacting with newsmen, Mrs Egwu said, the event has been an annual occasion saying it was an avenue for the foundation to relate with the less privileged, widows as well as, the physically challenged persons in the state by demonstrating kindness, teaching them the word of God.
According to her, “The essence of this annual event is to put smiles on the faces of the widows and the less privileged persons to make them happy”.
She urged them to always embrace God despite challenges, saying that widowhood is not the end of life, and noted that she made the donation of the items to ease the means of their livelihood, while encouraging them to remain committed to God as he is the only one capable of intervening in their situation.
On his part, the senator representing Ebonyi North Zone Dr. Sam Egwu, who commended his wife for always having the zeal to help the less privileged persons, hinted that her acts of kindness had been prior to her emergence as first lady of the state in 1999, and said he would continue to support the foundation in order to touch more lives in the state.

In their separate speeches, the member representing Abakaliki/ Izzi Federal Constituency at the National Assembly Chief Sylvester Ogbaga represented by his Secretary Mr. Albert Oketa and the member representing Afikpo South/ Afikpo North federal constituency, Hon. Iduma Igariwey and chairman of the occasion, Professor Adline Idike described the gesture as a welcome development and enjoined the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items to actualize the dream of the benefactor.
The trio who expressed glad for associating with the people, lauded Mrs Egwu for taking such bold step and prayed God to replenish her in hundred folds.
Some of the beneficiaries including Nwosu Justina, Onu Lilian, Ogochukwu Okike, appreciated their benefactor and prayed God to reward her.
The former Senior Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Higher Education, Prof. Adaeze Nwuzor, the member representing Ebonyi East constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly Hon. Victor Aleke and Nkechi Iweh were among those who grace the ceremony.
Highlights of the event includes cultural dances, drama performance with songs of praises to God as well as the preaching of the word of God by guest speaker, Apostle Arome Osayi.
