Ebonyi state Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has flagged off the Inter-LGA Governor’s Cup football competition on Saturday, 29th July,2023.
This is even as Izzi Local Government Area Team scored 2 against Afikpo who scored 1, thereby, emerged as first team to win opponent in the season.
Flagging off the exercise at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki the state governor charged teams to play according to the rules.
Nwifuru who was represented by the Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Moses Ije Odunwa noted that the exercise would serve as a veritable platform to harvest talents that would represent the state at the national league.
Odunwa, who said that the sporting activities would help curb youth restiveness appreciated the vigour to success exhibits by average Ebonyi youth and noted that Chief Nwifuru’s Led administration would continue to encourage talents at all times.
He commended Ebonyi born Entertainer, Chukwuemeka Nwota a.k.a Mc Walter for the successful completion of the Guinness World Record 130-Hour non stop entertainment that brought the state at the global map which also won him honour from the state government.
He promised to irrevocably establish Sports Academy as to serve as breeding ground for the young talents while ensuring quick completion of the ongoing Olympic Stadium at the Ochudo Centenary City.
The state governor who warned against sports hooliganism, tasked the Commissioner for Youths Development and Sports, Hon Prince Richard Ugo Idike to be remain focus and pay more attention on school sports as to build talents that would be great in sporting sector in the nearest future.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Youths Development and Sports, Prince Richard Ugo Idike eulogized the state governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for returning the state back fully into sporting activities after eight years of moribund.
Idike, described the development as opportunity to forestall unity among the 13-LGAs in the state, hence, stepped down the vision of the new administration in revamping the sports sector.
He commended the governor for his pragmatic leadership and accelerated commitment to ensure that the sporting activities bounced back fully in the state despite its lean resources.
He further assured of ministry’s readiness to ensure that sporting activities become an envy of all and urged the youth to embrace the new development by shunning crimes and reciprocate the gesture with their support.
He also called for optimal maintenance of rules and regulations guiding the match as the game progress.
