Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Ebonyi state Council has honoured the Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi over his outstanding legislative impacts.
Presenting the award during the Ebonyi State Council’s grand finale of her 2023 Press Week held at Dr Sam Egwu Press Centre, Abakaliki.
The South East zone C National Vice president of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr Ifesinachi Emmanuel stated that the award was in recognition of Senator Nwebonyi’s Legislative Impacts at the National Assembly.
He described Senator Nwebonyi as a vibrant young man whose strident voice is irrepressible at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
“ As a first timer in the National Assembly, you deftly and dexterously bulldozed your way into the top leadership hierarchy of the Senate.
“This is a no mean feat. You have continued to be a shinning light and voice of reason at the Red Chambers and I commend you very highly for that.
Earlier in his remarks, the Senate Deputy Chief Whip appreciated the NUJ Ebonyi State Council for their important role as the Fourth Estate of the Realm.
Senator Nwebonyi who spoke through his representative at the event, Mr Valentine Nwori, the Chief Media Aide, commended NUJ Ebonyi State Council led by Comrade Samson Nwafor for their partnership with the state government in ensuring good governance in the state.
“ I’m very much delighted to receive this merit award from the NUJ, Ebonyi State Council.
“I have always admired the journalism profession because of its invaluable role as watchdog of society and Fourth Estate of the Realm.
” I want to assure you that I would sponsor bills that will improve the safety and general working conditions of Journalists in Nigeria. As a friend of Journalists, I will continue to support you to discharge your duties creditably well.”
The Federal Lawmaker applauded the Governor of Ebonyi State, Right Honourable Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his people oriented leadership and the support so far given to the NUJ.
The 2023 Press Week grand finale program themed: Attitudinal Change and Responsible Journalism drew many dignitaries from far and near including the Governor of Ebonyi State who was ably represented by the Commissioner for Information, Ebonyi state, Deputy Speaker Ebonyi State House of Assembly and other Members, National and Zonal leadership of the NUJ, top government functionaries, Council Chairmen among others.
