The Executive chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Council, Prince Chinedu Augustine Uburu has said that every Local Government Area in the state is autonomous.
He, however explained that all the chairmen received statutory allocation directly into their Local Government designated account.
He stated this while interacting with Journalists during the celebration of his successful one year in office in Abakaliki, the State capital.
Prince Uburu dismissed the allegation that council chairmen in the State have joint account with the State Government, noting that their statutory allocation go into their various LGA account and they carry out their projects legitimately and independently without any interference.
According to him, “Here in Ebonyi State, we enjoy full autonomy when it comes to Local Government Autonomy, if there are people saying they don’t receive their statutory allocation into their account, Ebonyi State is not among”
“In Ebonyi we don’t operate joints account system, LG carry out their projects legitimately and independently while State Govt do its own projects. Just few hours ago I was at legacy FM to tell people the projects I was able to execute within one year as LG chairman”
“”On the issue of statutory allocation, I will tell u vividly that since I assumed office as Local Government chairman our statutory allocation have always drop directly into our LGA account and I believe all the chairmen in Ebonyi State received their statutory allocation into their account”
While responding on allegation of Ebonyi state government diverting federal government ecological fund, Prince Uburu said, “We also receive ecological fund just the way we received statutory allocation and it is being spent by the Local Government Areas independently, I personally have some ecological projects in my Local Government Area”.
The Council chairman who enumerated some of the projects he executed within one year under review, expressed his preparedness to touch all the nooks and crannies of the council towards alleviating the sufferings of his people especially the rural dwellers.
“When I came on board, I discovered that the major problem of our people was road, i swung into action. We have graded Egwudinagu Onyirigbo Ulenwu Uzenyi down to ugbala road.
” We have graded Ugbodo Onyirigbo and nkaleke road among others. We have equally done a lot of street lights, procurement of transformer to Onyirigbo- Egwufunagu Ndiechi. We have graded kpirikpiri axis down to St. Maris Secondary School, among others.
He maintained that his adminstration has embarked on so many youth empowerments programs as to ease their means of livelihood.
“last week we empowered some youths with motorcycles while some were given capital to start up businesses. I have good packages for my people to mark this one year in office”
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for approving the distribution of palliatives to the masses to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, assuring that he would do all within his powers to ensure the palliatives got to the targeted persons and called on other council chairmen in the State to do same to alleviate the sufferings of their people especially the downtroddens.
