ITF calls to vote for equity as a step to engender credible election via adherence to natural justice
By Agu Peter Chinedu
The IZHI TEHU Foundation is a socio-cultural organization in Izhi land which comprises the three Council Areas in Ebonyi state. It succinctly advocates for fairness, justice, and equity in the electoral process of the 18th March governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
It is commendable that the foundation recognizes the importance of transparent and credible elections in any democratic society.
Electoral malpractice is a significant threat to democracy as it undermines the legitimacy of the electoral process and the government’s mandate. It takes many forms, such as vote-buying, ballot stuffing, intimidation, and falsification of results. These practices erode public trust in the democratic process and can lead to social unrest, instability, and political crises. Therefore, it is essential to address electoral malpractice and promote transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
The IZHI TEHU Foundation’s call to vote for equity, fairness, and justice is a step towards achieving this goal. By advocating for these values, the foundation is sending a message that every vote counts and that every voter’s voice must be heard. The foundation’s message aligns with the principles of democracy, where every citizen has an equal right to participate in the electoral process, and every vote must count.
In her wisdom, the foundation’s focus on equity, fairness, and justice is a reminder that elections are not only about choosing a leader but also about promoting social justice and equality. Elections can be used as a tool to address social and economic inequalities and to promote a more just and fair society.
In conclusion, as I understand it, the IZHI TEHU Foundation’s call to vote for equity, fairness, and justice is a timely reminder of the importance of transparent and credible elections in any democratic society. By advocating for these values, the foundation is contributing to the promotion of social justice, equality, and democracy. I hope that more organizations will follow in the foundation’s footsteps and work towards ensuring that every citizen’s vote counts and that the electoral process is transparent and credible.
Shun sentiment and vote for equity!
