Fathering Sunday: Abakaliki Diocese Honours Ogbaga, wife as Ambassadors of Faith

The Member representing Abakaliki/ Izzi Federal Constituency in the House of Representative Rt. Hon. Sylvester Ogbaga has been conferred the title of an Ambassador and his amiable wife Hon. Mrs Agnes Ogbaga as patroness by the catholic Men organization of St. Theresa Catholic Cathedral, Abakaliki.

The event took place during the celebration of fathers’ day held on 2nd May, 2021 at St. Theresa Catholic Diocese Abakaliki,Ebonyi State.

Chief Ogbaga who is the longest serving lawmaker in the history of Ebonyi State and presently the Chairman House Committee on Delegated Legislation was crowned following his immense selfless contributions to the national development and his constituency through active, vibrant dignified participation in legislative engagements and delivery of dividends of Democracy to his people.

The lawmaker has received numerous meritorious awards of excellence as a mark of honour and had been acknowledged by several professional bodies and institutions.

Addressing the people shortly, the lawmaker, expressed joy over the awards and described it as a gift from God.

He thanked the catholic community for finding them worthy and assured of their continuous promotion of the faith.

He noted that role of fathers can not be overemphasized and called on them to persistently lay a good foundation in their families for its growth and betterment of the society.

He urged Christians to remain faithful in God for his blessings, adding that no man’s gift can be compared with God’s gift.

According to him: “This award is from the altar of God, and I’m overwhelmed and happy, it’s challenging, but I am sure, with God, all things are possible”

“So many people believe that you cannot be a politician or get into success without looking unto other gods, it’s a challenge but I will prove to them that God can do all things, when you are upright in what you are doing, and that will keep me going,” he stated

Earlier in a sermon, the officiating priest admonished fathers to return back to God and accept him as their personal lord and saviour,as they imbed the spirit of love among family members and to God as the author of life.

He further called on fathers to embrace the new life in Christ and resurrection of life as well as offering themselves as lamb to God for the growth of the house of God and their families, noting that the lawmaker and Wife were honoured for living an exemplary life.

He enjoined them to continue to be an Ambassadors of Christ, stand on truth and refused to blackmail, while praying God to lift them to the higher positions in the nearest future.

The event which attracted the presence of the former Senator of Ebonyi Senatorial District, Senator Nguji Ngele, Comrade Chinedu Ogah, Member representing Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency, described the awards given to Ogbaga and his wife as a well deserved honour.

Others who bared their minds to our reporter including the Member representing Abakaliki North Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly Hon. Franca Okpo and her counterpart of Ezza South Constituency Hon. Christ Usulor, the Chairman of Izhi Development Union Mr. Julius Ibere, former caretaker chairman of Izzi Local Government Hon. Peter Iteshi among other distinguished personalities poured encomium to Ogbaga and described him as a man of vision, charisma, philanthropist, honest, great achiever and peace advocacy.

They hinted that the award was an honour well deserved, urging him to continue to live up to an expectations and chat the course in right direction for the benefit of God and humanity.
