–Izzi Media Group Warned
The Association of Izhi Media Workers has noted with dispiritedness the renewed hostilities between the people of Enyibichiri in Ikwo and Enyigba in Abakaliki Local Government Areas leading to carnage and mammoth destruction of property on both divide.
The Association has in a release made available to us as jointly signed by the national president Comrade Sunday Nwambam and Mr Boniface Nwankwo in Abakaliki.
The group noted that they observed with encouragement the genuine efforts of leaders from both sides such as the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Francis Nwifuru and above all, the mediatory role of our amiable Governor David Nweze Umahi in ensuring quick return of peace to the areas.
“However, the Association has observed with debilitation the various unguarded and repulsive utterances by some uninformed persons both in online and offline platforms targeted at personal attacks on our leaders which are either capable of exacerbating the impasse or spiking a new dimension of the animosity.
“More worrisome is the fake news that has overwhelmed the situation leading to accusations and counter accusations by the two warring Communities.
“From the foregoing, we condemn in strong terms the renewed blood letting by the two erstwhile most peace loving brothers thereby demeaning that which binds us together as one.
While we encourage our leaders not to relent in their efforts to ensure that the warriors call a truce as soon as possible, we call on our religious leaders to intercede on-behalf of the two brothers that God may have mercy and heal our land.
We also appeal to our brothers from the other divide especially facebook activists to desist from making further derogatory comments in order to ensure that the genuine efforts of our leaders to curtail the war does not go down the drain.
This is because what has befallen us is not a speech making bacchanalia that would need every Tom, Dick and Harry to surmise.
As we do that, may God hear our prayers and speedily restore peace in our land.
