Ebonyi Govt Rejects Court Ruling DisbandinEEbube-Agu Security Operatives

From Amauche Agbo, Abakaliki

The Ebonyi State Government under the leadership of Governor Engr. David Nweze Umahi has said it would not accept the ruling of the Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki which disbanded the South East Security outfit popularly know as Ebube-Agu in the State.

This was made known through the State Commissioner for information and Orientation, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, the State Special Security Consultant, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha and the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Emmanuel Obasi during a press briefing at Old Government House, Abakaliki.

Recall that a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, in a judgement delivered by Justice Fatun Riman had declared that Ebubeagu which was established by the state House of Assembly, EBSHA, was illegal and unconstitutional.

Justice Riman had in his judgement disbanded the Ebubeagu security outfit and called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to disarm Ebubeagu Operatives.

Orji described the judgement as biased, a miscarriage of justice and a judicial rascality, saying the security outfit which had been complementing the efforts of other security agencies in the State was established under the law and would continue to exist, adding that nothing can stop their operations in the state.

He, however, stated that the State legal team has appealed the judgement and filling Stay of execution on the matter and expressed confidence that Government and EBUBE AGU would be victorious in the case.

According to Orji: “That Federal High Court judgement is a miscarriage of justice brought about by malice on the side of the judge.

“It’s a judicial misapplication and misinterpretation, having regard to the principle of judicial and judicious decision.

While commending EBUBE AGU security personnel for proactive security watch in the State, the Commissioner encouraged them to continue to be alive to their duties as the matter is being rectified.

On his part, the State special security consultant Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, noted that the same case was earlier ruled in favor of EBUBE AGU security outfit sometime last year by the State high court and wondered why the same court of competent jurisdiction would upturn the earlier judgement.

The special security consultant called on opposition political parties to stop playing politics with the security of lives and property of the citizens, said the judgement has been appealed and as such the security would continue to function.

Also, the Principal Secretary to the State Governor, Chief Emmanuel Obasi, said EBUBEAGU security outfit is a lawful organization which has done excellently well in protecting the lives of Ebonyi people.
