Ebonyi Assembly Committee On LG Seeks Synergy To Strengthen Govt Policies At Grassroots

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters has paid a familiarization visit to Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy matters to synergize with the duo in best ways to ensure that government policies and pogram were randomly extended to the grassroots.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Committee and member representing Izzi East Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon Obinna Mbam said that in as much as the grassroots and the majority of the people in the state are directly supervised by the Local Government Councils and the Ministry is at the helm of such affairs, it is pertinent for his Committee to have a good rapport with the leadership of the ministry, first to have a cordial working relationship with them and most importantly to be well abreast of the areas the Committee will wade in for the benefit of the people.

According to statement issued by the Assembly Public Relation Officer, Mr Egede Sylvester, the lawmaker assured the Ministry that the Committee would do all it takes to enable them perform optimally most specially as the present administration under the leadership of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru with his policy of people’s charter of needs.

The leader of the House of Assembly and a member of the Committee representing Afikpo North West Constituency, Hon. Kingsley Ikoro solicited for a good working relationship and stressed on cordial relationship between the two organs of government.

In his contribution Hon. Godwin Abiri representing Izzi West Constituency noted that the ongoing administration has established a viable internal democracy at the grassroot level, and therefore, called for more collaboration amongst the authorities that handles the local government administration.

In their separate speeches, the Chief whip and a member representing Edda West, Rt. Hon. Nkemka Okoro Onumah and the Deputy Leader representing Abakaliki South, Rt. Hon. Joseph Ununu commended the state governor for changing the narratives at the Ministry of Local Government Viz-a-viz the Local Government areas and promised that the Committee would not renege on making the rural populace felt the impact of the present administration.

Responding, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Stephen Uchenna Igwe assured the committee of total obligation to the programmes and policies of the State Government through the repositioning of the Ministry adding that the visit of the Committee would serve as a catalyst to do more.

He commended the committee for the visit which he said would be reciprocated by working towards the achievements of the objectives behind the people’s charter of needs of the present administration.

In a vote of thanks, the Acting Secretary of Joint Account Committee Hon. Isaac Chukwu said the timely visit of the committee was highly appreciated.
