A dedicated member of the Motorcycle Mechanic Spare Part Dealers and Allied Matters Association, Awoke Nwabueze Samson, popularly known as Ogbuefi has called on the government of Ebonyi State to ensure free and fair election in electing executive members that will pilot the affairs of the association.
Comr. Awoke made this known while speaking with journalists at his workshop in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Nwabueze, a renowned Mechanic with over 27 years of experience in his profession expressed his willingness to lead his people, he appealed to the State government to allow transparency, and shun godfatherism in the election.

Recounting his previous role as the association’s treasurer from 2015 to 2018, Nwabueze highlighted his commitment to financial transparency, emphasizing that members never had to worry about missing funds under his stewardship.

“I contested for the chairmanship position in 2019, but the election didn’t hold. I was appointed caretaker chairman, position which I held for six months, which i did very well, during that period, I created access road in the site.
“Now, this year, we are two that came out for the position, I and Obinna Obasi, on May 17, 2023, we tried contesting election, but it was suspended by the Governor till further notice. It is the INEC committee chairman, Obinna Igube that is piloting the affairs of the union right now.
“And it is not good, as most of the things that should be done in the site are being neglected, like our fence is down and nothing is being done because we don’t have leadership.
Our correspondent gathered that in the current race for the chairmanship position, Nwabueze and Obinna Obasi emerged as the two contenders which election was scheduled to hold on May 17,2023.
However, on that day, the election was abruptly suspended by the Governor, placing the INEC committee chairman, Obinna Igube, in charge of union affairs.
Expressing his concerns over this development, Nwabueze highlighted the adverse effects on Mechanic Village, stating “it is not good, as most of the things that should be done in the site are being neglected, like our fence is down and nothing is being done because we don’t have leadership.”
Disclosing his agenda for the association, Nwabueze noted “if I become the chairman, I will make sure that there is toilet, water and electricity, as there is none presently. And we don’t feel the present of the government, which is bad. I will make sure that there is development, I wil also help the government to fight crime, as most motorcyclists are known for crime, I will ensure that there is maximum security, proper remitting of revenue and everyone walks freely without fear.” He Stated.
