Catholic Priest Installs Solar Powered Borehole in Ebonyi Community

A catholic priest, based in Switzerland Reverend Father Polycarp Nworie has attracted a gigantic solar powered borehole to Orokonu village, Ezzama Community in Ezza South Local government area, Ebonyi State.

The cleric while commissioning the project at Orokonu village said the gesture was boiled out towards fulfilling his covenant with God which aimed at helping the needy and the downtrodden in the society expressing his readiness to extend the project to other communities in the various LGA of state including Ikwo, Izzi, among other areas.

Our reporter observed that the priest had also cited the project in Idembia Community in Ezza South, four communities in Ezza North LGA as well as one community in Ivo LGA respectively.

The benefactor, Rev Nworie, thanked the traditional ruler in the community Ezeogo Charles Mkpuma for being a transparent leader, the Monarch whom he said he took the message about the borehole to and he directed him to the said Village instead of his own as others used to do, prayed God to bless the people and pledged to more in no distance time.

Speaking, the member representing Ezza South/ Ikwo Federal Constituency Comrade Chinedu Ogah commended Governor Umahi for allowing a true son from his constituency Ezeogo Charles Mkpuma to be the state and South East chairman of traditional rulers council as he has done much in showcasing their cultures, describing him as a leader per excellent

The Federal lawmaker condemned the incessant and unwarranted killings of innocent souls that erupted at onueke recently by suspected cultist, stressed the need for the people not to show hatred among themselves. He said he has cited projects worth over 380 million naira in the council as well as empowerment of many youths and promised to attract more dividends of democracy in the area.

He told the village Orokonu to give him a youth from poor family for scholarship in the university and extolled Father Nworie for partnership for development of the people describing him as a friend, ebullient and called others to emulate from his kind gesture.

Also, speaking the traditional ruler of Ezzama Autonomous community Ezeogo Charles Mkpuma extolled the priest for his humanitarian services assuring that the community would immortalized him, advised him not to relent in his philanthropic disposition as God would reward him.

He announced that the community had conferred the priest Omereora one of Ezza land and would name children after him, the traditional however presented (Ukpara) filled with colanut to him to complement his kind gestures.

On his part, the geologist Engr. Pascal Nwovu said the borehole was drilled 90 meter, approximately 300 fits.

He stated that the water has been text run and it rushed fluently adding that its capacity would serve the entire community and beyond and however charged the users to use it judiciously to improve its longevity.

Earlier in their address presented by Mr Emmanuel Oruna on behalf Orokonu Ezzama village recalled their ordeals in going for some kilometers in searching of water especially dry season which he said has resulted excavation of various points in Ugboku stream to fetch water.

They lauded the catholic priest Nworie and the traditional ruler of Ezzama community Ezeogo Mkpuma for coming to their aid and prayed God to blessed them and assured to take proper care of the borehole to avoid being damaged by unscrupulous elements.
