Ebonyi State Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Nkechinyere Oginyi weekend laid the body of her late mother to rest at uduku Ettam Okpuitumo in Ikwo Local Government Area amidst tributes.

Late Mrs. Bridget Oginyi, a retired teacher and former supervisor for finance ikwo local government who died at the age of 74 was described as mother Theresa whose exit has created a big vacuum in her community.

She was said to be the hope of the downtrodden at Holy Cross parish Catholic Church Okpuitumo where she worshipped till death.

Speaking during the homily, the Parish Priest, Mater Dei Miscordei Parish, and principal of Bishop Okoro Boys Secondary School Afikpo, Rev Fr John Okoro hinted that the late Mrs. Oginyi lived a worthy Christian life.

The Priest while consoling the bereaved family admonished them not to mourn as their mother has gone to a place of rest considering her account while on earth.

“There’s no time our loved one died that we don’t mourn them but we should be happy seeing that she lives a life of worthiness. some saints died at seventeen years and likes but they live lives that we remember today.

“God will not ask us about the type of house, car, and all that we have when we were on earth but the good things we did while on earth.

“We’ll be reminded that we did not feed Christ, give water to the needy to quench thirst which is what Christ will ask us and many will be denied of heaven because of all these things.

He enjoined them to emulate the good character of the late madam Oginyi who is known to devote her time and resources to assisting people.

“When you look at the biography of Bridget, she helped many by assisting those who are not her children by training them in school.

“It’s true that most times, those we are helping are the ones working against us and pay us back with evil but don’t be deterred.

“It is unique each time I see Bridget every morning mass despite her age, even when there’s a fund drive she will not fail to give as much as she could.

“We have been good friends and she’s good at encouraging people including myself most times watch her in awe and will get solace from her advice.

“I encourage the children to emulate their mother who lived a truly Christian life by continuing with those legacies she left behind,” Okoro concluded.

The son Ifeanyi Oginyi thanked those who assisted them in one way or the other to ensure that the burial went successfully including Hon. Chinedu Ogah member representing Ikwo/Ezza south federal constituency, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Editor in chief Citizens’ Advocate Newspaper, Rev. Fr Ifeanyi Ogodo, Hon. Celestine Nwele, and other priests, NUJ Ebonyi state chapter, NAWOJ Ebonyi state, members of the correspondent Chapel Holy Cross Parish, and the community.
