Ahead of the 2023 general elections, some concerned stakeholders from the four Local Government Areas that made up of Ebonyi North Zone, Friday in Abakaliki, adopted Brr. Elizabeth Ogechi Ogbaga as a preferred candidate to contest for the Senatorial position of Ebonyi Zone under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC)
The adoption followed the declination of her husband Chief Goddy Ogbaga(Ezeudo) who was aspiring for the same position but have decided to allow his wife to go and represent the people of the zone for the interest of gender equality.
Speaking, the chieftain of All Progressives Congress in the zone, Chief Fidelis Ozibo said they adopted Barr. Ogbaga to represent the Zone because of her past antecedents when she served as the member representing Ebonyi/ Ohaukwu Federal Constituency and wanted her back at the National Assembly to continue her good work.
Chief Ozibo called people of the zone to throw their weights behind her aspiration to reposition the Zone and Ebonyi State at large.
Also Speaking, an elder Statesman Chief Godwin Nwode who expressed joy on the development, noted that Barr. Elizabeth Ogbaga has performed creditably well during her tenure as House of reps member and other positions she has held in the State, describing her as peaceful and woman of substance who has the interest of her people at heart.
He said she is the only one that can restore the peace and dignity of the Zone.
According to him, “We want to send somebody who knows the road to Abuja very well, we don’t want to send a learner again, I believed Barr. Elizabeth Ogbaga knows the road. She is a good woman, if she goes to Senate something different is going to come to Ebonyi North Zone. We don’t want somebody who will bring catastrophy, killings, burning of houses. If you are not looking for trouble look for Barr. Elizabeth Ogechi Ogbaga.
” I want to tell Ebonyi North Zone that the right person is Barr. Elizabeth Ogbaga, if all of us agree together we are going to enjoy everlasting peace in the Zone” he said
Chief Nwode affirmed his total support and loyalty to the Senatorial aspirant and promised to do all humanly possible to ensure she succeeded.
On his part, Mr. Ogbonna Gabriel prayed God for the emergence of Barr. Elizabeth Ogbaga to be the Senator of Ebonyi North Zone come 2023.
He added that her emergence would help in sponsoring the bill for the delineation of the disputed boundary between the people of Igbeagu Community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and Ukelle of Cross River State which had wreaked much havoc on his people, adding that if elected into the Senate house the issue would be resolved permanently.
Other speakers included Emnanuel Nwulegu, Bernard Agashi, Mathew Ojuogwu, Abraham Chima as well as Nkwegu Lebechi, backed the senatorial ambition of Barr. Elizabeth Ogechi Ogbaga to liberate the people of the zone from political quagmires.
However, the people maintained that they don’t want mediocre and people with destructive tendencies in the Zone but only need Mrs. Ogbaga who is a peace lover and well experienced politician to transform the Zone and expressed their continue support at all times.
In her response, the Senatorial aspirant Barr, Elizabeth Ogbaga who was overwhelmed with joy, extolled the people for supporting her senatorial ambition.
The former reps member who promised to represent the people effectively, assured never to disappoint the Zone if elected into power and also to restore peace in all the nooks and crannies of Zone as well as prioritize on youths, women empowerment among others.
While briefing newsmen on the Senatorial position of Ebonyi North Zone, the former Minister of State for Power and Steel Chief Goddy Ogbaga revealed that he had aspired for Senatorial position of Ebonyi North Zone since 2003 but all his efforts had been frustrated by manmade impediments.
Chief Ogbaga who was aspiring for the Senatorial position, noted that the seat of a Senator requires people of maturity with wisdom, added that after making consultations from leaders, family members as well wishers was advised to support his Wife to aspire for the Senatorial position of the Zone which he accepted.
The erstwhile Minister, however, enjoined people of the Zone to join him and give the much needed support to his dear Wife to represent the Zone at the Senate and assured that his Wife would perform creditably well.
