Today, 19th day of May 2021, the Bill for the establishment of first ever Federal Sports University of Nigeria in Ebonyi State 2021 (SB. 138) sponsored by Distinguished Senator Obinna Ogba passed 2nd reading on the floor of the Senate.

The Bill was read for the first time in the hallowed Chamber on Tuesday, 5th November, 2019.

The Bill seeks to establish the Federal Sports University of Nigeria in Ebonyi State and to make comprehensive provisions for its due management and administration.

The very essence of this bill is to provide a highly specialised Institution where youths of our nation can be developed in various sporting endeavours in an academically charged environment.

Addressing journalists shortly, Distinguished Senator Ogba said that the nations sports sector has high potentials and requires high level of technical, scientific and administrative skills to drive it. The University of Sports therefore will help further advance knowledge through research and nurture unique innovations in sporting science and technology.

Conclusively, he said that the establishment of the University will be a giant step in the right direction and a major milestone in the history of legislation in Nigeria
