The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi state chapter has raised alarm over alleged collection of PVC’s and names of youths, victims of volatile communities by the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in the state.

The opposition party alleged that the collection of the above names and PVC’s would be used for political reasons, especially to beef up the membership registration, update & revalidation exercise of the ruling party in the state.

The Acting Chairman of PDP, Elder Fred Udeogu made this known while speaking to newsmen in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi state.

He said: “We got information that Ebonyi state government is collecting the names of youths in volatile areas, especially the areas that have a crisis. We don’t know the purpose for the collection of those names.

“But if they planned to use it for political reasons or purpose, we will resist it. I think the correct thing the Ebonyi government should do is to reconcile the warring areas, empower them so that they will go back to their normal lives.

“Not to attempt using them or their names for political reasons or purposes. Even though they are doing something about it.

“We actually condemn it. Civil servants should be allowed to be civil servants and to do their jobs. And again, nobody should be compelled or forced to be a member of any political party.

“We are emphasizing that most civil servants should not be forced to join any political party and nobody in Ebonyi state should be compelled by whatever reason to belong or register with any political party, if that is done, we members of PDP will resist it because Ebonyi should be free for all.

Udeogu however, applauded its teeming members for their support, steadfastness and sacrifice as the party moved to greater height.

He however tasked civil servants and members in the state not to allow anyone to collect their PVCs in whatever guise and purpose.

“Be assured that the Peoples Democratic Party is resolute to resist intimidation and activities of agents of destabilization and will soon bounce back” he added.

In a swift reaction, the Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in Ebonyi state Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha said the accusation is baseless and that he has no time to react to it.

“Sometimes, they bring baseless accusations. I will not react to this one” he said.
