The Executive chairman of Abakaliki Local government Council, Hon. Emmanuel Nwangele on Monday 21st September,2020, raised alarm over high rate of crimes, charging  perpetrators to shun such activities capable of bridging  peace as his administration would not tolerate that in the council.

Nwangele gave the charge during an enlarged security meeting involving political officeholders, traditional rulers, village heads and youths at the council headquarters, Nkaliki.

The Chairman expressed displeasure over herdsmen’s activities in the council such that, the cattle breeders have turned into stealing and destruction of farm produce but however admonished them to champion peace in all course for their own  interest.

He called on the citizens living at the border areas of the council to employ new tactics to avert any possible eruption of crisis which is capable of wasting lives and properties.

Hon. Nwangele called for peaceful-building in the  area, urging all grassroot leaders to work together in order to elevate insecurities in all quarters.

He noted that his re-election into office as the Executive Chairman  is a call to install peace by ensuring that the area is a crime free zone; pledging more commitment to step down the policies and programmes of the state government under the leadership of Governor David Umahi to his council area, assuring true reflection and distribution of Democratic dividends in the council.

He added that in Izzi land which Abakaliki Council houses its ancestral home, would be ready at all times to maintain peace and order, calling all and sundry to begin welcoming any movement championing for unity in the area.

He directed the communities in the council area whose their traditional seats are still vacant to urgently produce their royal fathers to help in sensitizing and promoting the peace agenda he stulks for the smooth running of his second term in office.

However, the Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Internal Security and Public Utilities, Ebonyi North Zone Hon Ben Nwovu, thanked the Council Chairman, and cautioned the people to never take security issues for granted.

He advised them for a continuous peaceful coexistence with both the indigenes and the herders in the state especially in their areas.

He said, all the village heads should constitute their respective village vigilantes and queue into  peace building and harmony as directed by the council Chairman, adding that, whichever village that did not implement the order would be sanctioned.

Meanwhile, other stakeholders including Senator NgujiNgele, Coordinators of Development Centres, some Traditional Rulers and village Heads promised  to take the message to their various areas for the progress of the area.
