Wife of Ebonyi state governor Mrs. Rachel Umahi has discharged over sixty repaired fistula patients drawn from eleven states of the country.
Addressing the women at the National Obstetric Centre, Abakaliki, the wife of the Governor represented by the Special Assistant to the governor on Welfare Matters, office of her excellency Mrs.PatienceOkorie expressed gratitude to God for the quick recovery of the women, congratulated the health officers and other partners for their effort in ensuring that the patients recuperated advising them never to relent in doing good as God will reward them abundantly.
She said that the hospital would continue to render help to women that have such complicated issues in the state to improve their standard of living.
The wife of the governor, however, charged the women to adhere strictly to all the instructions given to them by the health officers to avoid unwarranted problems.
She called on the women who are having the similar issues to rushed urgently to the hospital for proper treatment.
She used the opportunity to launch the simplified Igbo and pidgin versions of Ebonyi state law 002 of 2018 VAPP law.
In his speech, the Chief Medical Director National Obstetric Centre, Abakaliki Dr. John Obuna attributed the causes of fistula as poverty, ignorance, visitation of quack doctors, poor supervised labour among others, expressing the hospital readiness to intervene on the plights of women in the society at all times.
The Medical Expert said that the hospital offered free treatment of embryo transfer, cancer treatment, invitro fertilization, free training of health workers on fistula, rape victims, female genital mutilation, as well as, family planning services.
He admonished the women to obey all instructions given them such as avoiding of immediate pregnancy, visitation of quack doctors among others, imploring them to extend the medical services of the hospital to other women who are having the same issues to come for treatment in the area while thanking the wife of the governor for attending to the indigent women in the society and pray God to reward her in the hundred folds
He appealed to the wife of the governor to provide them some medical instruments including solar inverter, ambulance van, beds, staff bus,ventilators, x-ray machines and others for easy discharge of their duties.
The programme Coordinator, Family Succor and Upliftment Foundation, Mr. ChukwumaElom applauded the wife of the governor for her love and care to the women and called on religious, community leaders and stake holders to join hands together and mobilize all the fistula patients in their areas to come to the hospital for treatment.
Some of the women while sharing their testimonies including Mrs. Felicia Odoh, OdohFidelia and TijanyVilly thanked wife of the governor and the health officers praying God to bless them in all their endeavours.
